Olson is best prepared council candidate

POSTED:   03/20/2017 10:09:18 PM MDT

A Loveland City Councilor is elected by one of four geographic wards in our city, serves four years, receives a very small salary for their 10-15 hours a week of service, is one of nine voting members on the council. Even the mayor has only one vote of the nine members who serve on council. So, what's the big deal about City Council elections?

The city operates on an annual budget of over $280 million, and that budget provides direction to the city staff as to how the citizens of Loveland wish to have their tax dollars spent. Many of the decisions reached by council require a long-term perspective as capital projects are often complex and involve considerable investments in infrastructure. The financial decisions made by council impacts public safety, public works, as well as over 750 employees serving the residents and business community of Loveland. Each council member's vote can have significant impact on the quality of life enjoyed in Loveland now, and for future residents.

Steve Olson's background of his service to country and community sets him uniquely apart from the other current candidates for Ward 3. Others have commented on that service. But, I also am personally aware that Steve has spent the past 15 months preparing for this next commitment of service.

Since my own election to council last November, Steve has by my side studying the issues and listening to council debate. Steve's consistent presence at nearly every regular meeting and study session has matched that of seated councilors. Steve is not only the best qualified candidate; he is also the best prepared candidate. The actions of City Council are important and I hope the residents of Ward 3 agree and vote Steve Olson onto the Loveland City Council.
